And not booing when you're dissatisfied with your conference I also feel is unsportsmanlike.
So from the bottom of the MWC fan in me, "Boo!"
The MWC recently announced a partnership with Comcast (aka "The Devil') to launch their new network "The Mtn." Pacts with the devil are never good ideas, especially pacts that will force me Joe Fan to pay extra $$ to watch my team play. I struggle to afford the very basic Dish Network package as it is... so asking me to switch to more expensive Comcast (who has the worst customer service around, by the way) and upgrade to a more expensive programming package is completely out of the question.
And the fact the MWC gave Comcast all the Aces in the deck, half ownership with the job to sell programming to their direct competitors! This totally baffles me! Isn't free enterprise always the better way to go?
Even if you're theoretically providing access of your product to more people, that doesn't mean all those people are willing to pay for something they've been getting for free. It won't be long before sponsors see that the cume audience is way down, and you're kidding yourself if you don't think that will eventually trickle down to the individual Universities.
Locally here in Utah, KJZZ, KSL, heck probably even UPN would have been willing to pay for the games to air on their stations. The beauty? These stations are available to anyone with rabbit ears! To sell out for an extra buck or two is shortsighted and inexcusable.
It's high time Y fans join with U fans to give a loud "Boo" to their conference leadership, to Comcast, and to anyone else who feels the fan should have to pay out the nose for something that could and should be free.
