Well, for 28 years I have been proud to say that a Cougar fan I am not. Perhaps I'm not as proud to say that now as I was, say 2 or 3 years ago, but still proud nonetheless.
The following statement will only delight the BYU fans I have grown to despise; I am so sick of losing to BYU! I'm sick of the "magic happens" mentality. There may be some exceptions, but most BYU fans truly feel their team is divine, that God actually cares if they win or lose. And this bothers me.
But what bothers me even more is when BYU gets on a little roll. It fuels the "divine" attitude to uncontrollable levels. Right now you could almost compare the attitude to, I dunno, maybe a stone cut out of the mountain without hands?... BYU has some serious "mo."
That was taking it too far. I'm sorry.
Getting back on track... How do you give up a first down on 4th & 18? I've had 2 months now to figure that one out. When I do I'll let you know.
Similarly and more recently, Saturday's basketball game was enjoyable enough to watch - until the last 30 seconds.
Perhaps you can help me understand the thought process behind the last play. Well, guess what? A friend of mine sitting down close could actually hear coach Boylen talking to the huddled players during the timeout. Here's what he heard...
"OK guys. There's 30 seconds left and we're down one point. I guess we could try to score quick in case we miss the shot, but that's not how I roll. We don't want to give them a chance even if it means not giving ourselves one either. Does that make sense? (players nod in befuddled agreement) We're gonna give the ball to our worst player. They'll never expect that. Heck, Kepkay, you've only had 2 points all game! You stink! Anyway, just dribble around until there's only 5 seconds left and drive in for the layup. We haven't been able to penetrate all day, so I figure we're due, right?"
They say that if you're living right on and off the field, your judgement will not be clouded and you won't have a stupor of thought. So perhaps it was the big man upstairs that made Coach Boylen call one of the worst final-game plays in history.
Maybe I'll convert to Cougarism afterall.

Ike, this is God. I am really a Ute fan. I am just letting BYU win these to get their hopes up. Someday, it will bite them in the ass.. Oops, did I say that. I meant fanny.
utah or byu... Hmmmm neither. I dunno. But I do know is that i'm glad I took your advice and now I'm getting my education. Thanks for taking the time to sit and talk with me whip me into shape.
Heard a typical Cougar fan this morning on the radio say that this is the year that the jazz win the championship (Of course because of their win over San Antonio last night) and the Cougars win the BCS. Dilusional. It'll all come crashing down for them sooner or later.
Oh Ike, God doesn't want you to contain all this bitterness. Just let it go, buddy, let it go. And be glad that I'm not one of those annoying Cougars...I make it EASY to have a BYU girl in the fam, don't I?
