Time for a Parade!

It's July in Utah, and that could only mean one thing... a parade is coming to a town near you!

Last year my dad's neighbor, a volunteer on the Centerville parade committee, put some heavy pressure on him to have the company he works for sponsor Centerville's first ever "balloon." Would it be Woody Woodpecker? Snoopy? Garfield?

When she brought him her big binder full of the possible rental balloons, we were sorely disappointed. He had his choice between Uncle Sam, a snowman (not Frosty) or a giant blow up vegetable. She recommended Uncle Sam. I was pushing for "Bubbles the Clown Balloon Head." (see above) Imagine the very first balloon at the Centerville parade and it's a giant ugly clown head! Sadly, my dad was unable to get the company to buy off on the idea.

Coincidentally, and as a true testament to how crappy Utah parades are (with the possible exception of the Salt Lake Days of '47 Parade), my brother has been asked to be a clown in this year's Bountiful parade.

I love my brother. My brother is great. But my brother's calling in life is not to be a clown. He doesn't juggle or ride a unicycle. He's not oddly shaped. He doesn't know how to make balloon animals. And makeup won't make him look silly, it will make him look scary. He'll be the type of clown that makes people hate clowns, like Stephen King's "It." It's not gonna be pretty. I'll laugh. Children will cry. Small animals will run & hide. It's gonna be the best parade ever.

You were right, children did indeed cry that night. I think the poor child will be alright, which is great considering the circumstances. Thanks alot clown.
