Hurricane Ike

Around the office, I'm now known as "Hurricane," as in "Wut's up Hurricane?" and "How's it blowin' Hurricane?"

Since Hurricane Ike's inception, many people have asked me how it feels to have a hurricane named after me. I hadn't given it much thought - until now. Because of the countless requests of others (okay - I admit, I could probably count them on one hand), I will now try to put into words the emotions (or should I say lack thereof?) I have stemming from Hurricane Ike.

If I got to choose to have something named after me, hurricane would not be my first choice. A library would be nice. Or say your friend adopts a puppy - Ike would be a fine choice of names. Maybe I could talk with Chris Hill and see if he'd be willing to change the name of the stadium to Rice-Eccles-Ike Stadium. That would be nice.

Hurricanes are destructive. They ruin people's lives. They blow off walls and flood homes, leaving behind a moldy uninhabitable mess. That is the glass half-empty view. On the other hand, they bring communities together. They can bring out the best in people.

So if you're going to have a hurricane named after you, why not embrace it? And if you're going to have a hurricane named after you, it might as well be a big one. So I silently cheer as Ike continues to ruin countless lives., and I secretly hope that this is gonna be one for the record books. (italicized to enhance sarcasm).

PS. And now, as per Nate's request (as this post is all about requests), I present a crappy Scorpions song...

I'll tell you what, if we ever get another puppy, I promise I will name it Ike. But just so you know, I've vowed I will never get a boy dog, so you will have to be proud of having a girl dog named after you. But the odds of us caving to another puppy are about 1 in a million, so don't get your hopes up!

You should walk into work with a ghetto blaster playing Rock You Like a Hurricane. Or maybe you could sue whoever names hurricanes for defamation.

That is the best 80's song ever! (Okay, I agree that it's crappy!)
If we ever get a dog, I'm sorry to say that we will not name it Ike, but that's because it doesn't sound like a dog name to me.

My body is burning
It starts to shout
Desire is coming
It breaks out loud
Lust is in cages
Till storm breaks loose
Just have to make it
With someone I choose
The night is calling
I have to go
The wolf is hungry
He runs to show
He's licking his lips
He's ready to win
On the hunt tonight
For love at first sting

Here I am, rock you like a hurricane
